Responsibilities of the Practicum Student
  1. Once placement is approved, contact the supervising school library media specialist to arrange a visit and to develop the practicum plan, particular activities, and the schedule for the Practicum
  2. Consult with the supervising library media specialist to determine whether the host site has any special requirements for practicum students.
  3. Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of the host school.
  4. Talk, dress, and act in a professional manner.
  5. Be proactive in seeking possibilities for involvement that will enhance the quality of your Practicum experience.
  6. Provide the supervising library media specialist with a copy of the Practicum Syllabus.
  7. Ask for feedback from your supervising library media specialist.
  8. Note your activities for your weekend journal.
  9. Set up a date to be observed by the practicum director. This should be done as far in advance is possible. There are a lot of overlapping dates toward the end of the semester. Select a day for observation when
    • you are teaching a significant lesson
    • you have time either before or after the lesson to discuss your experience. This can be by yourself or with the supervising librarian as well.

  11. Complete course assignments as listed below.
    • Collaboratively develop a practicum plan
    • Maintain the practicum log during the practicum and participate in as many different library activities and jobs as possible.
    • Post your weekend journal each week detailing your activities from the previous week.
    • Participate in 4 Skype sessions with other members in the class.
    • Complete an instructional collaboration project.
    • Complete the Practicum Evaluation checklist at the end of the semester as a self-evaluation of the practicum experience.
    • Complete the Qualitative Feedback Form.
